VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation (VBPR) is collaborating with AARP to dedicate the first FitLot™ in Virginia on Saturday, June 18, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Williams Farm Park. The community is invited to join the celebration that will also offer free food, music, and games to entertain the whole family! VBPR Fitness & Wellness staff will be available to teach guests how to use the FitLot equipment throughout the event.
“We pride ourselves on our ability to collaborate with organizations who share similar goals like improving the health and wellness of our residents,” said VBPR director Michael Kirschman. “We are looking forward to providing a celebratory event for the community to come experience this new amenity and have a lot of fun!”
FitLot exercise equipment can be adapted to meet a wide range of fitness levels and abilities. AARP’s investment in programming includes free group circuit classes currently being offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, led by VBPR staff. These classes are open to all ages.
“AARP is deepening its commitment to healthy aging for the people of Virginia Beach by working with Parks & Recreation,” said AARP Virginia State President Joyce Williams. “This is part of AARP’s continued work in local communities and dedication to healthy aging. The outdoor exercise equipment encourages people of all ages to get out of the house, meet others, and stay fit.”
There have been 53 AARP sponsored outdoor fitness parks opened since 2019, with the one at Williams Farm Park being the first in Virginia.
